How to Play Skribbl.io
- Enter your name, pick a language and customise your avatar.
- Press Play to join a public game, or create a private room.
- When it's your turn, choose a word from the options shown.
- Draw it before the time runs out. You can't write letters or the word itself.
- When others draw, guess the word by typing in the chat box.
- The player with the most points after all rounds wins.
How Scoring Works
Guessers earn more points the faster they find the word, so quick thinking pays off. The drawer also scores when other players guess correctly, which rewards clear drawings. As time passes, letters of the word are revealed as hints, making it easier for everyone else to guess.
Create a Private Room
Click "Create Private Room" to make your own game. As the host you can choose settings such as the number of rounds, the drawing time, the language and even your own list of custom words. Share the invite link with friends so only people you know can join. Private rooms are the best way to play with a class or a family group.

Skribbl.io Drawing Tips
- Start with the outline. Draw the main shape first, then add details.
- Use colour. A green tree or a yellow sun gets guessed much faster.
- Draw the most famous version of the word, not an unusual one.
- Use arrows and symbols to point at the important part.
- Use the fill tool to colour big areas quickly.
Guessing Tips
- Look at the blanks. The number of letters is shown at the top.
- Guess early and often. Wrong guesses cost nothing.
- Think in categories: animal, food, place, object.
- Use the hints as letters are revealed over time.
Using Skribbl.io in the Classroom
Teachers often use the game for vocabulary practice. In a private room with a custom word list, students draw and guess words from the lesson, which turns revision into a game. It works on most school devices because it runs in the browser.
Why Players Love It
You don't need to be good at drawing to have fun. In fact, the funniest moments usually come from the worst drawings and the wildest guesses. Each round is short, every player gets a turn to draw, and the chat fills up with guesses as the picture appears. It's a game that gets people laughing together, whether they are friends, classmates or colleagues.
Private rooms with custom words make it flexible: you can play with inside jokes, school vocabulary or a theme like animals or movies. It runs in the browser on computers and tablets, so everyone can join from their own device.
Is It Good for Kids?
The drawing game itself is very kid-friendly and great for creativity. However, public games include chat with strangers, and other players' drawings and words are not always suitable. For children we recommend a private room with friends or family, where you control who joins and which words are used. More advice for families is on our Information for Parents page.
