Temple Run 2 is made by Imangi Studios, the creators of the original Temple Run, one of the games that made endless runners popular on phones. The browser version keeps the same fast, simple gameplay.
How the Run Works
You never stop running. The path in front of you twists, splits and drops away, and you have to react in time. Some obstacles knock you out straight away, while others just slow you down. Be careful: if you get slowed down twice, the monster catches you.
Temple Run 2 Controls
| Action | PC / Chromebook | iPad / tablet |
|---|---|---|
| Turn left / right | A / D or Left / Right arrows | Swipe left / right |
| Jump | W or Up arrow | Swipe up |
| Slide | S or Down arrow | Swipe down |
On tablets and phones you swipe, just like the mobile game.
Obstacles to Watch For
- Ropes: slide along them to cross the abyss.
- Rocks and tiles: jump over them.
- Spinning spikes and fire: jump over or slide under.
- Trees and walls: turn onto another path in time.
Powers: Boost, Magnet and Shield
- Boost (the default) shoots you ahead without worrying about obstacles.
- Magnet pulls nearby coins to you.
- Shield protects you from obstacles, but not from missing a turn.
Coins fill your ability meter, so collecting them during the run is how you activate your power.
Rivers, Mineshafts and Falling Stones
The route changes as you run. Sometimes you are on a river, sometimes in a mineshaft riding a minecart and leaning left or right, and sometimes on a path where falling stones break the way ahead. These sections need quick reactions, but they also make every run feel different.
Coins and Daily Challenges
Coins are spent on upgrading your abilities. Daily challenges reward extra coins, and the last day of each five-day challenge period includes a chest with even more. Coming back each day is the fastest way to power up.
Is Temple Run 2 Good for Kids?
Yes. It is an adventure runner with a cartoonish monster chase and no blood or chat. The monster can be a little spooky for very young children.
